The Club’s Articles of Associations provides that any person having an affinity with golf, who is of good character and repute, who has attained the age of 18 years and who is likely to be compatible with existing Members of the Club shall be eligible for membership.

Candidates for membership should be active golfers keen on utilising the Club’s golf facilities as much as possible and who understand and are prepared to abide by the rules and etiquette of golf.

Each candidate is required to have a Proposer, Seconder and three referees. The Proposer and Seconder must have been a Full, Life or Six Day Member for a continuous period of at least two years prior to the date of proposal and must know the candidate well either socially or from a business context over a reasonable period of time. One Referee must be a Member of the Club for at least one year in any category other than Junior membership must and the two addition Referees may be Members of the Club within the past five years or people of good standing within the community.

It is expected that the Proposer, not the Candidate, will approach the Seconder and Referees to seek their consent to support a membership application. It is preferable that the Proposer, Seconder and Referee should come from as wide a cross-section of the membership as possible. Not more than one family member should be involved in the nomination of the Candidate.

Since July 2019 a waiting list has been in place men over the age of 18. The Club has limited opportunities available for women and juniors to take up membership. This aligns with the Golf Australia and R&A special measure to promote women’s golf.

After receiving the completed nomination form male candidates over 18 will be required to pay a $1000 nomination fee before being placed on the waiting list. This fee is non-refundable however it is deducted from the entrance fee when an offer of membership is made, and the candidate is elected to membership.

Each candidate is required to attend an interview with a representative of the Membership Committee and have their Proposer or Seconder present. The purpose of this interview is to enable a Club representative the opportunity to meet the prospective Member and for the candidate to ask any questions they may have regarding the Club. Once interviewed, the candidate’s name and address will be displayed on a Club noticeboard for fourteen days prior to an election by ballot of the Full, Life and Six Day Members of the Club, which will conclude on the third Saturday of each month. Following the ballot, the Candidate’s application will be reviewed by the Board and approval will be sought.

Following Board approval the successful candidate will be notified and upon payment of the entrance fee and annual subscription fee, an elected candidate will become a Member of the Club. The annual subscription fee will be a pro rata amount according to the number of months remaining in the Club’s fiscal year.

Once the candidate has paid their entrance fee and annual subscription fee, they will be required to attend an induction which will provide sufficient information to ensure that all new Members understand the structure and ethos of the Club. The practicalities of access to the course, the Club facilities, and the involvement in the social activities provided by the Club will be covered at the induction. Following this induction, all new Members will be able to access the rights and privileges of membership of Royal Queensland Golf Club.
